Writing the Test

Melody sighed, shaking her head. "Call em rude then- I want my magazine back." it was a vintage Vogue, from the mid-1900s. She was using it in her lesson next week- and she had the feeling that if she left without it, she would never see it again. Anything with Audrey Hepburn on the cover was worth saving. Melody also kind of, sort of didn't want to leave just yet....

((Um... there was no names on the title so I wondered if it was open. If not I can delete my post. Darien just likes to know what's going on in his library.))

Darien was shelving books as the evening wore on, the library turning quiet as students filtered out to their common rooms. A few teachers were hovering around though, he knew, so at first he ignored the low sounds of conversation coming from the muggle studies section. But when the library began to feel... itchy, almost, Darien wandered closer to the pair of teachers to see what was making the books so uncomfortable. A young woman, arms stacked with notes, had her hand out towards a slinky looking man who was reading a magazine. She looked unhappy. Darien carefully inserted himself into her line of vision, offering an interuption, if she felt she needed it. Something about the man made him uneasy.

Melody looked at the new man who had come into her sight- she recognized him as the Arithmacy Professor. "Hello." Melody said. "Professor Daas- am I right? I think I've seen you at dinner." She offered, setting her notes down on a side table and resting her arm on the ample stack of papers. "How are you?" Melody raised her eyebrows, letting Nick pick his way through the magazine. She wasn't going to leave without it. She stood there, rather relaxed, waiting for a responce.

Nicholas looked up briefly at the new voice, but soon returned to the magazine, then closed it and admired the beautiful woman on the front cover. Yes, Audrey truly was a magnificent sight to behold; her slightly parted lips, her smooth, white skin, her thick, dark lashes and her wonderful eyes, always slightly horrorstruck, it seemed to him. "Very well, I am quite finished," he said, handing the magazine delicately to Melody and standing up, pulling his waistcoat down and into its proper place. He examined his fingernails for a moment - well manicured, as always - before finally bringing his attention to the young man who had cared to join them, staring unblinkingly at him for several minutes, taking the measure of the man. "Nicholas Flitwick, Charms professor," he announced once his mind had been made up, extending a hand in greeting.

Melody looked through the magazine slightly horrorstruck herself almost as she serched for fingerprints or wrinkles in the worn old pages. "And I'm Muggle Studies Professor- I believe I neglected to mention." She smirked, not finding a thing but the cover story. She sighed, straighteneing her pile and waiting for the seemingly stunned professor's answer.

Darien offered Melody a cautious smile. “Yes, I am Professor Daàs, please, do call me Darien. I’m honoured to finally make your acquaintance, Miss Rouge. And Mister Flitwick,” Darien extended his own had to meet Nicholas’. “How do you do?” He glanced down at the magazine that had appeared to be the point of argument and mentally shrugged. Some fashion magazine, old fashioned, entirely out of Darien’s arch of knowledge. “Is there anything I may help you with? I have been appointed librarian as well as the professorship…” He turned from Nicholas, drawing his hand back with a hopeful smile as he nodded to Melody. “Though it seems you already have quite a collection with you here.”

melody gave him a cautious half smile- she couldn't tell if there had maybe been a compliment hidden deep within the folded dimsensions of that last clip of words. "Thank you." she answered anyway, for if he didn't mean to compliment her he certianly did compliment her enormous stack of materials. "I worked hard to get these- extremely hard to find. I've always been passionate abotu history and such." She smiled fondly on the stack of worn books and papers she had with her, only a small fraction of the collection in her office and in her classroom. "So you're the librarian now too? Quite the handful."

“Yes, it does keep me busy,” Darien smiled ruefully. “But then, that was why I accepted the placement. I don’t like too much time to ponder.” He lightly touched the glossy surface of one of the magazines. “I used to teach history, before I came to Hogwarts, it is a wonderful subject to be passionate about. I respect you for your dedication.” Darien’s smile began to look a little more open and he waved a hand back over his shoulder. “I brought a few original editions with me, perhaps when you have the time, you could browse through and see if anything catches your attention.”
