Certainly, not many people went on a train here, but some did. It went to remote places in the wizarding world, Hogsmeade station being one of them, Godric's Hollow another. There were two trains every day that made all the stops - which also made it possible for expelled students to get home in the middle of the school year - near all the wizarding communities.
