The Dungeons were silent, as was the rest of the castle at this time of the night. For anyone traveling through their dark, winding corridors, all they could hear was the soft howling of air wooshing between the narrow walls somewhere off in the distance. Aldie, who had decided to go for a little walk after she found herself unable to sleep, barely paid any attention to the sound. She had grown quite used to it over her approximate two and a half years at Hogwarts. So, her mind drifted elseware as she calmly walked across the cold, stone floors. Her casual dark black robes billowed out behind her, creating barely more than a whisper as the fabric rubbed against itself. Aldie's clothing choice, as well as her dark black hair, blended in well with the darkness around her. She might have been totally invisible if it had not been for her pale, white skin and her bright red eyes. For this reason, Aldie often tried to keep her skin as covered as possible, and her eyes hidden from view. To do this, she would simply draw her hood at the first sign of any company. However, this was rarely an issue. Not many people could be found wandering around the corridors at this hour. So, she allowed the hood to hang loosly down her back for the time being. She prefered it this way, it allowed her to see more clearly.
Suddenly, Aldie heard the sound of faint footseps. It was clear they were coming from far away, but they weren't getting any quieter. At first, Aldie didn't think much of it. The Dungeons were big. It was rather unlikely that whoever it was was taking the same path as her. However, after a while, she could no longer hide the fact that the owner of the footseps was headed her way. Cursing under her breath, Aldie pulled up her hood, drew her wand, and looked around for the best place to hide until her pursuer passed. She settled on a nearby statue that looked big enough for her purpose. Ducking behind it, she immedieately made herself comfortable. Judging by the slow-moving sound of the footsteps, she was going to be there for a while. Aldie sat down on the cold stone floor and leaned her back against the wall, propping up her feet on the back of the statue. After about five minutes, she began to feel stiff and shifted her position slightly. While replacing her feet so that they were slightly more bent instead of perfectly straight, she felt something move under her black tennis shoe. In surprise, Aldie quickly scrambled to her knees. Grabbing her wand, which she had set on the floor behind her, she quickly muttered, "Lumos." and looked at the spot where her foot had been with her wandlight. One of the stones that made up the statue's base had been pushed in slightly. Carefully, Aldie pushed the stone a little further. She heard a click, causing her to scramble away from the statue again. A scraping sound behind her made her turn around, seeing a section of the wall slide out of the way, revealing a long, dark passageway.
Aldie's first thought was the person who's footsteps were getting closer by the second. There was no way whoever it was hadn't heard what was going on. Taking a quick look around her to make sure the person wasn't close enough to see yet, she darted into the passageway. Aldie was instantly thankful that this narrow corridor had an even, stone floor. It made it much easier to run. At first she was merely trying to get away from her pursuer, but she soon forgot all about that. Instead, she became absorbed with finding out where the passage led. It was a very long corridor that sloped downward, so that Aldie was running downhill. Even running, she traveled for ten minutes and still hadn't reached the end. Finally, turning a corner, she suddenly stepped into a blidning light. She paused then, putting her arm up in front of her face. Her eyes were still adjusted to the darkness, so she was unable to see anything in this new lighting for a minute or two. Finally, her eyes readjusted. She could see the opening of the tunnel, not too far ahead. The bright light was pouring in through the wide opening. Excitedly, Aldie quickened her pace. She didn't even bother lowering her hood, even though there was no way her dark robes were going to blend in with this brightness. Finally, she bursted out of the tunnel and into a place she never thought existed.
Aldie was in a big brightly lit bubble. Inside the bubble was a large city filled with people carrying on their everyday lives as if they lived in a bubble every day, which, for all Aldie knew, they might. Taking a second to judge her direction, she realized she must be deep underneath the Black Lake. Over the entire city, huge, floating letters spelled out 'The Lost City of Atlantis'. Aldie merely stood, there, frozen. She'd of course heard of the city, but like most, she hadn't believed in its existance. Even if she had, she would never have guessed that it existed in the depths of the Black Lake. The people didn't seem to notice her, or the open passageway behind her. They simply continued to walk by and go about their buisness. Aldie didn't know if she should go exploring, or turn around right now and run back to the Hogwarts Dungeons. Both ideas were appealing at that moment, even if there was somebody coming down the corridor back at the castle. So, she merely stood there, dumbstruck. Finally, she remembered her wand, which was hanging down by her side, still lit. Aldie quickly muttered "Knox." and stowed her wand back into her pocket. She had no way of knowing if these people were muggles or not. Of course, judging by the floating letters they were probably all very comfortable with magic. Even if they weren't all witches and wizards, they probably had muggles that they lived in harmony with.
